Sometimes I see people like 20 tweets deep into an argument with Grok. Like, what are you doing brother? You are trying to win an argument with a vending machine.

i was planning on just having a function take and compare respective char stat variables and do calculations, so obv i dont have to make code for each one individually, but again i want to look deeper into other ways of storing/retrieving values, eg data tables and see if theres a better way

by premise it is a game about interaction --which to be fair any game is on a level, but elements are a core mechanical and narrative theme, so inevitably there arises complexity, but i want them to be somewhat modular in dev so i can easily change or incorporate them as necessary.

i do appreciate the advice, and yea im not implementing all this stuff right now, im just getting the basic battle system working, while also making considerations for the trajectory of what work needs to be done ahead, how it may benifit or hinder the experience, impact development, etc

it is an rpg so every char/enemy will have stats which are compared under conditions; eg constitution save against poison. its not just about damage but may also dictate success at all. data tables are something i dont understand but also am looking into.

doing as much work in as few steps is yes ideal, i conceed im still fledgling dev. im entertaining the best way to incorporate stats, currently as variables but looking for alternatives. (cont.)

its planned to be a turnbased rpg with various inspirations, not any one mold

(two specific variables i felt would give too much away about the concept so i blotted them out for now.. 👀)

if i gave everyone a happy ending, is that too optimistic? if i gave it a tragic ending, is that too cynical? and how much choice should there be?

inspiration i think is the key to everything, to inspire inward and outward change. does that necessitate happy, or tragedy? idk writing hard thinking.
