Transparency in turbine composition is still a challenge due to the opacity of industry, but WindTrace offers a flexible, open approach to have informed estimates to bills of materials and life cycle impacts.

We compared WindTrace to Ecoinvent, ran sensitivity analyses, and explored how different design choices affect climate change impacts per MW and kWh.

In this new paper, we present WindTrace: a parametric Life Cycle Inventory model for onshore wind turbines built in Brightway, led by Miquel Sierra Montoya (@icta-uab.bsky.social). It estimates bills of materials and environmental impacts based on turbine and farm parameters.
