A good day of Rural Dean duties today (though I’ve not technically started yet) as we rehearsed for the licensing of Rev’d Richard Turk in the beautiful St Mary’s church at Elsing. And there was sunshine too!

Lovely to be back on home turf today at my old school, St Christopher’s High School in Accrington, to celebrate my Dad’s 42 years as a governor (19 as chair of governors). A wonderful occasion and here’s to a happy retirement. @blackburn.anglican.org

You've got to love Norfolk!

Sunday’s cold and wet weather did nothing to deter a hardy band of Norfolk villagers, who turned out in number to support a revived Plough Sunday tradition in Cawston.

Plough Sunday was, at one time, a major event in the towns and villages of East Anglia. On the first Sunday/Monday after Epiphany, a plough would be drawn through the streets. The plough would be blessed as the agricultural community began a new season of ploughing and growing in the fields.

The church of St Agnes in Cawston is one of many in Norfolk to house a horse-drawn plough – a reminder of the way we used to work the land. The church also contains other artefacts which tell the story of the traditions involving the plough.

Good to see @dioceseofnorwich.bsky.social @bishopnorwich.bsky.social and @ianbishop.bsky.social on here. Welcome to what seems like a much more pleasant environment than the other place.

Plough Sunday in Cawston yesterday was excellent. Even miserable weather didn’t keep folks away as we celebrated our farmers and processed the Magi through the village on my vintage Grey Fergie. #ruralministry #followthestar

I'm a fan of organ music and have listened to a broad selection of styles & composers, but I felt the Notre Dame reopening was a missed opportunity. The repertoire was esoteric and must have sounded bewildering to the majority of viewers... There's a lot I agree with here: youtu.be/vK2rXp1dxAU?...

Ever wondered what the Star of Bethlehem might have been from an astronomical point of view? My wife works for the Open University and was invited to write something festive for their OpenLearn programme: www.open.edu/openlearn/sc...

What astronomical object was the Christmas Star?
In the lead-up to the festive season, Dr Becca Whitehead explores what astronomical objects the Christmas Star could have been.

Why do non-religious people assume they are neutral? Of course people of faith are influenced by their faith in political decisions like on assisted dying. You can't compartmentalise religion, it's not a hobby you can ignore in the week! Atheists and humanists are also influenced by their worldview.

Looks like storm Bert is bringing those familiar Norfolk intermittent power cuts.

The problem with naming storms is that I end up with mental images like this, which tends to undermine the seriousness of the whole thing.
