For WoW the game became unfun for me same time as the lore started to dissapoint me so i bailed.
In destiny my lore interest has waned recently but i still enjoy the game, so i play much less intensly/often

Destiny through the first 6 years of destiny 2 and WoW up til catsclysm have been my peak lore games.

If the lore and its delivery are good it elevates my interest and engagement. Lore can make a good game great.
If the game is good and fun but the lore is not...skip, don't care, will still play.
If game not fun, good lore will not save it.
If the game is good and fun but the lore is not...skip, don't care, will still play.
