After incumbent Durham mayor Elaine O'Neal retired, city councilor Leo Williams defeated state senator Mike Woodard in a nonpartisan election between the two Democrats. They defeated city councilor DeDreana Freeman and 5 minor candidates in the primary.

In an mixed night for Mecklenburg Dems, Vi Lyles improved on her 2022 numbers, while Stephanie Hand failed to flip the 6th city council district, the most competitive district in the city. However, Lyles won the 6th AND 7th with over >60% of the vote. Pesky downballot races.

Yesterday, Vi Lyles won her 4th term to office against real estate counselor Misun Kim, among many wins for North Carolina Democrats. Outperforming her 2022 numbers, she swept nearly every precinct (and she might after absentees are allocated).

In the Dem mayoral primary, incumbent mayor Vi Lyles won over 85% of the vote against perennial candidate Lucille Puckett, in their 4th and 5th run for mayor respectively.
