Try to limit my social expression to positive things about stuff.
This physical state does not directly change the gameplay states but is used by individual states to decide if they should transition to another state. The same way a user interaction could. On this graph you can see the cause of state transitions :
blue == physical cause
orange = user input cause

But this time I organized the controller around 2 distinct states : the usual gameplay state (stand, run, jump, etc...) and a second physical interaction states dedicated to collisions and contacts with the world. The whole thing is managed at the "base" of the controller and do all collision stuff.

Working on a character controller always feels good. Including all the little tricks like coyote time and jump buffering... but also finding new ways of architecturing the whole thing to make it scaleable with complexity and compatible with AI scripting. And this time, I tried something new for me 🧵

Who needs clear contrasts to get a sense of floor collision nowadays? Apparently, Overwhelmingly no one 😅

The millionaire director would like for ordinary workers to :
- be paid less please because it's not profitable enough for me and my millionaire pals.
- please use the tech squeezing them out of a job because I've invested so much of my money in it.

Everything's fine.

I get why Blue Prince is 'only' 78% positive on Steam but at the same time it's very disheartening.

When a game tries something really new like this and that it does work, it pains me to see it not more recognized for its boldness.

Ishtar Games' Dead in Antares is really my biggest UI work ever. We're trying to help players easily make the most informed decisions in a game with multiple intricate systems. It's a fascinating design work and a super stimulating technical challenge.

The work @miarimorgan.bsky.social posted these last few days is based on amazing concepts by Anais Lehoux for one of the last projects at Alkemi. Not sure she's around but hire her www.artstation.com/anaislx ... and hire Morgan too!

Non non c'est bien la présidente qui fait du zèle. On lui demande d'économiser 40 millions et elle elle relance de 60 parce qu'il faut pas la chercher : Elle apparemment elle sait comment "bien" gérer un budget.

Sometimes during a whole evening of work, all you get is a couple of text fields placed and the absurd notion that "yeah, maybe a rotating board would be kind of a cool idea!"

Throwback to my first drafts of UX for Foretales almost 6 years ago... Hmmm... maybe emulating a physical board once more would be nice.

Ok... So, I might not have the choice and I'll probably need to go 3D and move the camera around to show everything I have to show properly even on smaller screens. 'cause I have a hell of a lot of information to convey with these 25 squares!

Ever wondered how you could create a system to manage turn based action games with a clean separation between Model and View? Here's a rough overview of one way to do it.

That way you can easily remove the view and play thousands of automatically generated games in seconds for balancing.

Alkemi's fate is still unclear but my personal time is going into that baby these days. It took more than 10 years to extract Foretales out of my head. But this one has haunted me for 20y. Back then I couldn't make it, because my dev skills were limited to nesting if statements. Now, I know kung-fu.
