update to the first one
September 15, 2025 at 7:29 PM
been working on some older and newer nakano-inspired Ocarina of Time Link drawings

it was a piece that was specifically not OKd by Koizumi, who had designed the model and had given Nakano this specific model to start adapting into 2d. You can see Nakano discuss this in the Zelda Art Masterclass. The bust and black and white image in the top post are the first to be given the OK.

Some updates, my buddy Darthdub noticed some detail changes otherwise, so I made some overlays. None of these originate from full scans of prints, so all of the leg and tunic changes are deliberate. Seems pretty obvious that this piece did not exist in this state originally, even as an alternate.

my favorite area in ocarina of time is the forest temple. took some screenshots with aegiker's link viewer, using the angrylion plugin to make it more n64 accurate.

Ocarina of Time Link's height.. again. About as precise as I can get it for now.

(Big thanks to Aegiker for the tools)

I've adjusted a few things and I'm crediting you both. Changes are shown in the images. Thank you both!!

The issue is, as some of these pieces were purely experimental (we still don't know which piece was Nakano's proposal piece), some things may just be unrelated to further development. We already know Nakano drew stuff that wasn't used for character development (see: the zelda art master class).

Nakano designed the bird crest, not the entire shield, as far as we know (though yes, that would make sense). I've written extensively about Link, and I have an image for reference. I also have a snippet here that will be added to the this list, but they are harder to summarize.

I don't know why the nakano turnarounds exist exactly, but we know for a fact that they were used for the BD&A figures (they share the same folds and other details not seen elsewhere). There's also only ones made for main characters, which would make sense for the development of toys.

Sorry I keep mistyping and forgetting the pic!
Re: Takizawa
If you're referring to this, this doesn't offer enough context to suggest he worked on anything other than final animations. I did add in "other horses" to Takizawa's section just incase. Let me know if you're refering to anything else.

The problem is that this can be interpreted as Nakano "refining" his idea of how it should look in 2D, not literally refining the texture. At first, I had a note in there stating this. However, an interview much closer to the game's release made it clear that Haruhana was solely responsible.

Taking the time to find out who designed who in Ocarina of Time. It's a shame people like to rip on the N64 models. A lot of love and care went into them.

Nakano's 2D art was exceptional, but it's important to note he was basing his art on the models after they were already designed.

These were released as items you could get signed at the The Art of The Legend of Zelda Series Masterclass at Japan Expo 2017, anyone have scans of these by chance?

Now I get to do Ocarina of Time character setups with the measurements actually listed

These were captured orthographically in-game (examples shown), so all things remained a constant size and maintained no depth. Some (very few) images had to be combined and might be several pixels off. Third image shows why several characters weren't included (they're too big).

Ocarina of Time height and size chart! I made this with Mellz117 (also known as Link-is-a-Dork)! Aegiker made the orthographic viewer. I also had help from OtherVio with colors, and help from the CloudModding Discord server(actor/model specifics, proofreading, font).

older Ocarina of Time Link art I did based on Nakano's work. I remember trying to get better at putting the peaks of his hair closer together, but they seem too close here, and his eyes too large.
