Just finished reading Alexis Pauline Gumbs' book "Survival is a Promise: The Eternal Life of Audre Lorde" and noticed it is Lorde's death anniversary today.

So I share with you one of my favorite passages on a market in Grenada:
March 13, when Audre and Frances finally got to Grenada, they went directly from the airport to the market to buy spices and fruit. Before the hotel, before the beach. Home is a taste. A smell. What was it like to be in any open-air market with Audre? According to the writer Andrea Canaan, it was like running errands with someone who had just landed on planet Earth for the first time. She wanted to touch everything. Taste everything. Imagine what it was like when after two days of travel and forty-three years of longing, Audre arrived at the market in Grenada, not stuffed under a railroad overpass but resplendent in the central square. Years later, she was still writing about Grenadian fruit: "red cocoa fruit, golden apple, mango, breadfruit, peach-ripe nutmeg. "Grenada. I am here," she wrote in her journal. "This is a lush and beautifully verdant haphazard island. I come to my schizophrenia highly recommended."
