The Original Cookhouse The original cookhouse was the heart of our gatherings at the pond. It was a place filled with laughter and good times. Papa's concrete barbecue was built simply: a brick frame that held a large metal grate over a wood fire. While it produced incredible meals, the cleanup was another story. After every use, someone had to shovel out the ash before the next cookout could begin.

It All Began During Christmas 2024 Our three kids came home with their significant others for the holiday celebration, and we quickly realized we had a problem: not enough bedrooms for everyone to have a place to stay. As Jimmy and I scrambled to find solutions that Christmas, an idea took root. What if we built vacation cabins by the pond?

From then to now Papa built the original dock, and it stood strong for many years. So many memories were made there. Hours of fishing off the sides, and swimming endless circles around it on the back of Playboy, a horse who loved the water. We'd put a halter on him, and he'd carry us kids around and around in the deep water.

Horsing around We don't have any horses now, but horses were a huge part of my childhood. My Papa always had twelve or thirteen horses roaming the property. When we wanted to go for a trail ride, we'd bring the old truck out to the back pasture and honk the horn. Most of the herd would race back to the barn for some corn, but there were always one or two Papa had to chase down with the rickety old truck.

Honeybee Hollow - 160 Jeofry Lane. This cabin sits at the end of our semi-circle of cabins, wrapped in warm cream siding that catches the afternoon sun.

A menagerie of fun Jeofry Jones loved everything about nature. He kept a menagerie of animals and would invite children and friends to tour his pond property. He had an old farmhouse that faced the lake, and right outside the screened porch, he built a large dove aviary—so he could, as he put it,  "get cooing whenever he wanted."  Papa also had a large collection of geese and mallards that never failed to come at his call.
