Rarely do you see a great blue heron so far from shore.

They stand 4 feet tall with a 6-7 foot wingspan. They stand motionless for hours, waiting for prey to enter their reach, and then, wham!

People up here shoot them because they damage trees. Me, I wrap chicken wire around trees I don't want to lose, but otherwise there are a million trees as far as you can see and porcupines are just trying to make a living.

Once the leaves are gone you can see porcupine high up in the trees, looking like a squirrel nest that's a bit fuzzy and breathing.
