Frogs have always been my favorite. This photo was from my first rehab in the early 90’s. Some other kids had hit this poor guy with a rock; may have been the first time I got into a fight. Two weeks of stressing over him in this box and I was able to release him! #WorldFrogDay

The USFS makes a lot of claims about “ladder fuels” and “small diameter #trees”. In reality, they are taking the largest, most fire resistant. This is unconscionable. So-called “thinning” / “forest heath” is just #deforestation. Time to #StopTheChop and demand these fund be used on #infrastructure.

Years of “thinning” and “forest health” have left many unaware of what a natural #ecosystem looks like. For example at #LakeTahoe many believe that dry, compacted #soil is normal. But this photo from an unlogged area post Caldor Fire paints a different picture. We need infrastructure NOT ecocide.

In our #fire adapted ecosystems, even high intensity burns do not “incinerate” or “destroy”. Life recovers quickly post-fire in areas undisturbed by logging. USFS will label this area “hazardous” however and salvage still living #trees, crush seedlings and #soil, and ruin all chance at recovery.

Always amazes me how quickly #ecosystems recover after #fire provided that they aren’t “salvage” logged. Instead of wasting billions on “thinning” the #forest, we should be demanding home and infrastructure hardening, such as evac routes, buried utilities and home-out defensible space. #climate
