But it was a right of passage to get your driver’s license at 16 because small rural town meant it was often super far to visit friends or go shopping so was important for freedom. Never looked back after that. Car travel only until I went to uni.

I had opposite experience in rural town of BC. We walked 1km
to school starting in 1st grade and later scootered/biked. Often in a bike bus situation with neighbours. My mum worked at my high school, but I rarely got a ride because she started early. No sidewalks. Bus service was offered >1km away.

This headline is better than yesterday’s because it has more information about why there isn’t a crossing guard. Some high schools are close to primary schools, so at least they benefit from crossing guards nearby. But intersections known to be dangerous near any school should also have them.

Or as we spell it in Canada, arginine! My favourite thing about Arg is that the pirate Arrrgh is also a clue to the one-letter code! Unlike its trypsin buddy lysine.
