This is not normal. A sitting president refusing to call the governor of a state after two elected officials were shot, one fatally, is beyond words. A typical president, regardless of politics, would pick up the phone. Offer condolences.

Here is another way of looking at this. My travel health insurance is null and void if I travel to a country with a travel advisory on it. Who in their right mind would travel in the USA without some travel insurance, and about 10 countries including Canada have issued US travel advisories.
