Today is #WorldAIDSDay, remembering all those who have been affected by HIV and AIDS. The history of these diseases is intrinsic to the history of New York City, and the legacy of activism on behalf of those suffering from them is reflected across our collections.

Archival processing is essentially, making order out of chaos; while these are by no means the messiest files we've ever received, getting them safely rehoused and stored on our shelves is always satisfying, and ensures they remain available to the people of New York City for the future.

24 years after 9/11, we pause to remember the thousands of lives lost, honor those still living with its impacts, and stand with the families forever changed.

We hold in our hearts their memory and the resilience of New Yorkers who came together in the face of tragedy.

May we Never Forget.

On this day in 1839, John Herschel took the first glass plate photograph, then a revolutionary technique that created much sharper and focused images than previously possible. The Archives holds many such items, such as this photograph from the Queens Collection. (Copyright @qplnyc.bsky.social)

In celebration, here's a few of the Mets-related items in our collections... and we're looking for more!

The storm coming today in NYC is forecast to be intense.

As much as 5 inches of rain could fall between 2 and 5 pm., at a rate of as much as *3 in/hour.*

This would be a storm of historic proportions for NYC. Significant risk of flooding in subway, streets etc. 1/2
