Remember, if you need to use AI, avoid OpenAI at all costs.

Don't reward Sam Altman for his move to corner 40% of the world's RAM and Storage supply. If we bankrupt OpenAI, this bubble can burst and we can afford PCs, consoles, and other devices using computers again.

We have two different y2k like events coming up:

Jan 1 2030 - Visual Basic dies. (1930 is the base for dates in it)

2038 - unix / linux 32bit time_t

These can already be problems if you are trying to represent dates in the future.

I bought a used cisco switch to replace the HPE instant on that has been locking up on me. The cisco switch is much worse. A fan slot is bad. One of the PSU is failing. The usb port is broken. The OS got corrupted on the third boot. It's reporting power issues to optics.

Ugh.

Interesting real world problem. I just saw someone who is getting misidentified as coming from Indiana on IPv4 addresses due to geoip database info being wrong for Comcast IPs. That means crazy laws there are blocking his access to some websites.

Wonder who the rocket scientist was that came up with the idea of glib20 and gobject-introspection being dependent on each other for builds. Everyone loves circular loops in trees right?

is there a new botnet that is doing ai training or something?

I'm seeing traffic from a very large number of IPs and some of them don't make sense. Like sendgrid doing AI training?

Alibaba cloud sucks. They're clearly doing AI training against my website. Requests are coming from hundreds of IPs. (at least 12 /24s) All from their singapore data center

They aren't using an identifying user agent either. pretending to be an old chrome.

I think Intel should rename their hybrid core types:
P, E, LP become fast, slow, get out and push

My wife has a coworker that thinks you have to buy every single CPU to test software. Like m2 to m3 mac or intel 14100 and 14700k.

He thinks frequency bumps break things. This isn't a DOS game from the 80s that needed a turbo button.

Not a fan of seagate’s plan to use nvme on hard drives. Not only is there no speed increase, it will severely limit the number of drives you can have in a computer.

There aren’t enough pcie lanes for this plan. It’s not just consumer platforms but also amd entry level epyc or intel entry level.

Adobe's "cancellation process" is BS.

They wouldn't let me cancel during a free trial. Then they locked out 'manage account' until after the refund period was over. Then, when I contacted them to cancel, they lied to me! A month later they tried to bill.

Google's indexing rules have gotten insane. They weren't listing pages because I hadn't set a canonical URL. So I do, and then the follow-up index says they don't agree with my choice, so it's unlisted. WTF

I recently created a pull request against an SBOM generator to add FreeBSD support. This might be useful for others.

FreeBSD support by laffer1 · Pull Request #26 · anthonyharrison/distro2SBOM
It adds initial support for FreeBSD with the default package manager. Making this a draft for now to get some feedback on the approach.
