Trans General Assembly. March 8th, 3:30pm at The Marie Equi Center, 4434 SE 25th Ave. Want to represent your project? PDXTransGeneralAssembly@gmail.com Hey Y'all, With the current climate and increasing danger to Trans people, GPTU is planning to bring folks together to discuss and prepare, calling it the Trans General Assembly. Event will be held March 8th, 3:30pm at the Marie Equi Institute in SE Portland: 4434 SE 25th Ave, Portland, OR 97202. Format for event: We'll be starting with individuals/groups presenting plans of action that are ready to get started and just need extra hands. Give people something they can jump right into working on to help the cause. If you have a plan or something to present in the beginning, please send a brief synopsis to us via PDXTransGeneralAssembly@gmail.com. We are reserving the first portion for plans/actions that are ready to get started and time is limited (idea presentations need to be 3 mins long at most.) Then we'll switch to more open format where folks who didn't reach out prior, have ideas in the moment, etc etc, will have space/time to present ideas to get volunteers. After that, breakout groups for folks to join working on a specific plan, and open forum time will continue for anyone not interested in current groups or otherwise still in main room Oh, and should go without saying, but this is a Trans event, Trans led and for Trans people. Cis folks can attend provided they understand this is our time and space, and they will be welcome to listen and support, but not speak on our needs and take up space. Planning this to be monthly as well, depending on how things go, but Trans people need to be getting organized now more than ever. Things are getting real ugly, real fast, and will only get worse and banding together is how we fight back. So come to this and other trans events we or other groups put on. Make friends, get contacts shared, build that communal solidarity and support networks capitalism continually destroys. Reality is, the only ones we can count on to protect Trans people are ourselves. Love y'all
