My girl Frida is sometimes grouped with the Surrealists, who explored the subconscious mind through dream-inspired imagery. However, Frida was in Mexico, while the Surrealists were primarily in Paris, so the association with Surrealism isn’t totally accurate. This quote seems to agree.

I made a crochet Venus of Willendorf. The original figurine was found at a Palaeolithic site in Austria in 1908 and is estimated to be c.30,000 years old. #archaeology #crochet
