Me when I get you:

This was done with shape keys! So are the running, jumping, and head tilt poses. It's because 1) I cannot be bothered to rig, and 2) it's a low poly model with very few vertices, so manipulating the mesh to do dynamic poses is easier than giving it bones (in this instance)!
