This is a heartbreaking and harrowing statement to read. Deepest condolences.

Also, Carla Hayden, the fired Librarian of Congress. Someone needs to organize and catalogue the knowledge.

Step 3: Gaslight taxpayers.
Run a media campaign saying lazy postal workers chose to strike and are holding your mail hostage out of greed. 🧵 8/9

Step 2: Force workers to strike.
Don’t hire enough people. Increase workload, reduce turnaround times. Claw back OT pay, pensions, benefits, & raises. Hold out on a reasonable offer. If they won’t strike—lock them out. Don’t LET them work. 🧵 7/9

Step 1: Bust the union.
Stop hiring full-time staff. Hire temps who don't qualify for union status. 🧵 6/9

That's how privatization works: disable an essential service that was never intended to make a profit so that the vultures can move in.

Privatization: The Strategy
If people can't count on the regular mail (that’s adapted with the times & worked since 1867), they'll have no choice but to turn to the private corporations that want to take over the market. 🧵 5/9

In 2011, Stephen Harper made sure Deepak Chopra (no, not that one) got the job as CEO of Canada Post. IMO, he was installed for the sole reason of deliberate mismanagement in the name of privatization. (I didn't invent the theory. Lots of people pointed it out—it was obvious.) 🧵 4/9

Most libraries could NEVER afford private couriers to transport books, and I don't think that's a secret.

Incoming friendly reminder to those who may think our mail workers are just greedy and selfish…

As a public institution, libraries can ship books at a discounted rate with Canada Post, another public institution. Nobody makes any profit. It doesn't cost extra on anyone's taxes. This all goes to better serve the public. 🧵 2/9

Support your local libraries and those that make them possible.

Every child deserves the chance to remember them.
