A statement that reads: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 8, 2025 Contact: Long Beach Latino Democratic Club 📧 lblatinodems@gmail.com Long Beach Latino Democratic Club Condemns Ongoing ICE Raids Across LA County and Demands Full Implementation of Updated Long Beach Values Act LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach Latino Democratic Club strongly condemns the ongoing ICE raids currently taking place across the Greater Los Angeles area, which have sparked fear and instability in our immigrant communities. These raids are part of a coordinated escalation of federal immigration enforcement that threatens the very values of justice, dignity, and inclusion that Long Beach claims to uphold. We are particularly alarmed that these actions are occurring in the wake of Long Beach’s January 2025 update to the Long Beach Values Act—an ordinance originally passed in 2018 in response to SB 54, California’s sanctuary state law. While the original act aimed to reduce local collaboration with ICE - loopholes and weak enforcement left many of our residents vulnerable. “The updated Values Act, passed earlier this year, was meant to close the gaps in local cooperation with ICE and ensure stronger protections for immigrant communities,” said Kiki Lizárraga, President of the Long Beach Latino Democratic Club. “But without full transparency and...(continued on next page) (Continuing from previous page)...accountability in implementation, the promise of sanctuary remains unfulfilled.” The January 2025 amendments to the Long Beach Values Act included: ● Prohibiting all city departments from sharing personal information or release dates with ICE without a judicial warrant ● Mandating public reporting of any federal immigration agency requests made to the city ● Creating a Community Oversight Committee to monitor compliance and elevate resident concerns Despite these improvements, reports from community members and local advocacy groups like ÓRALE Long Beach indicate that federal agents continue to conduct operations near homes, workplaces, and schools—creating a chilling effect on civic participation and community trust. Long Beach cannot be a sanctuary in name only.
