Not all “contaminants” are truly contaminants.

Cutibacterium acnes is part of normal skin flora, but its slow growth (≥6 days) and ability to form biofilms on prosthetic devices mean it can be a clinically significant pathogen if overlooked.

D-dimer may not give us all the answers, but its strong negative predictive value makes it one of the most trusted rule-out tools in emergency medicine. A normal result can save time, reduce imaging, and guide clinicians with confidence.
