MP for Norwich South “The ultimate hidden truth of the world is that it is something we make and could just as easily make differently” - David Graeber
1/3 It's being trailed in the media that the chancellor won't, after all, break the manifesto pledge on income tax. If that holds, I welcome it. Breaking the pledge would drive yet another nail into the coffin of political trust.

1/4 This is how leading housing and homelessness charity Shelter welcomed a major win for renters yesterday.

Last night, the Renters’ Rights Bill received Royal Assent and, thanks to this Labour government, it’s now law.

Why isn't my government in favour of public ownership of water?

I don't mince my words answering this and many of your most pressing questions on water.

What an absolute cluster.

Private companies in effect alleging the Thames Water bidding process is rigged. Who’d have guessed!

Ministers should just fess-up. This charade has never been about the public interest.

It was always about keeping water in private hands at any cost.

The hospitality sector is under threat. Ahead of the November Budget, I have joined other MPs to urge the Chancellor to act now to protect an industry that employs millions nationwide, provides vital spaces for connection, and creates a vibrant local life here in Norwich.

Clean, affordable water belongs to all of us. But public ownership is being blocked by misleading figures.

Can you ask the Environment Secretary to act on real evidence for public ownership and put people, not profiteers, first?

It’s time to take back what’s ours.

At the #BlueEarthSummit I joined Feargal Sharkey and @cleanilkley.bsky.social to call out the scam of privatised water, and show how public ownership can become a reality.

If you agree it’s time to bring our water home, sign: actionnetwork.org/forms/water-...

Another day, another water price hike.

Yes, these are new increases.

By 2030 you’ll be paying an average of 35% more for your privately-owned & polluted water.

Sign below if you think it’s time for water to be publicly owned.

My postbag has been filled with letters from constituents asking me to sign the #StopRosebank pledge. It's something I'm happy to back, because I support a just transition and fixing the UK’s broken energy system so we can mitigate climate breakdown through real solutions.

1/2 I've written to the Health Minister and Norfolk & Suffolk ICB about concerns raised during the merger of our local NHS boards. This reorganisation affects how care is delivered across both counties.

One million people have already signed a petition against ID cards.

If we’re serious about rebuilding trust, this is the last place to start.

It's like deciding to become a pacifist and then walking into your roughest local pub and knocking everyone's pints out of their hands.

Along with 60 parliamentarians, I've written to the Prime Minister calling on him to abolish the two-child benefit cap.

This policy continues to inflict severe and avoidable hardship on families across the country. Its abolition must be central to any credible child poverty strategy.

Rosebank remains the UK’s largest undeveloped oil field. In January, the Edinburgh court ruled that its approval was unlawful due to the scale of the emissions involved. The Labour government now faces a decision on whether to re-approve the project under a revised regime.

The Prime Minister needs to clarify what legal advice has been received about the visit by Israel's President Isaac Herzog to the UK, and whether his entry is compatible with our obligations under the Genocide Convention.

Deeply concerned that changes to trans rights could be approved without MPs or the public seeing details. This risks undermining accountability on issues affecting lives and freedoms. Proposals must face scrutiny before approval. Everyone deserves to know what’s being decided in their name.

Privatisation has turned our essential resource into a cash-cow for profiteers.

The Government’s long-awaited reform won’t fix it.

Food inflation in the UK is the highest among G7 countries. Farmers are cutting production as costs rise. Extreme weather is damaging crops and driving up prices (1/3)

Anglian Water caused 482 pollution incidents in 2024, including seven serious cases. It’s the company’s worst performance in nine years, according to the Environment Agency. 1/5
