New Set: Elbow Flex Exit Punch

-Entry to Luka at elbow/slot
-Flex action w/LBJ screening for Rui
-Maxi exit screen for Rui
-Luka entry to Lebron

The flex action + exit screen is just window dressing to get Lebron a true 1v1 against a mismatch

This is how you eliminate help defense

Elbow Flare Dive is becoming one of Redick’s go-to actions against switching schemes and it was lethal vs LAC

As noted in the original post below - this action has been extremely productive in November

Really love using Lebron as the screener + diver in this action

Luka’s shotmaking is historically great, but I find his processing to be so fascinating

Look at Doncic’s eyes on this possession:

▪️1st read is Dunn v Hayes on roll
▪️2nd read is Collins as low man
▪️Pass fake gets Collins to shift

It’s akin to watching a QB make progressions

Lebron James continues to provide a massive boost to the transition game

Laker transition frequency and effeciency have been poor all season and LBJ has given the fast break an injection of energy to supplement a half court offense that is potent
November 26, 2025 at 2:27 PM
With Austin Reaves on the court, the Los Angeles Lakers as a team this season:

▪️92nd percentile in Opponent Pts/Possession (-9.9)

▪️85th percentile in Opponent EFG% (-3.6)

And we haven’t touched on the offensive side of the court

It’s early/small sample, but yeah…….

Lakers’ Flare series has been extremely successful in the month of November

This is a great action to counter drop/going under the screen (for the shooter) that also exploits switching (for the screener/dive-man)

Redick likes Jake as the screener + diver in this action
November 24, 2025 at 5:02 PM
Among guards, Austin Reaves is literally the best finisher in the world

81.8% at the rim (100th percentile)
59.3% on non-restricted paint attempts (floaters) - #1 in NBA among guards

Reaves' ascension from UDFA to legitimate top-20 offensive player in the world is unparalleled

I was inclined to think the area where Lebron would help most was in the transition game and he certainly didn’t disappoint

Lebron was directly responsible for 10 transition points that came within the first 6 seconds of the shotclock

Redick is becoming proficient at identifying + exploiting drop coverage with Spain action

The 2nd year coach is becoming a bit quicker and more consistent in countering this defensive approach

Spammed Spain to good results in 1st half vs CLT
November 11, 2025 at 4:30 PM
Austin Reaves’ ability to manipulate opposing defenses with the ball in his hands has reached elite levels

▪️Stares down Ayton + pass fake to get Kalkbrenner off balance
▪️Then sells the shot until the last nanosecond
▪️Takes 2 defenders with him before hitting Ayton w/lob

This is a legit star folks

Redick spammed Spain action to good effect against Portland’s drop coverage

This is what the intersection of structured offense + coverage fit looks like

Some of this is undoubtedly just great shotmaking from Smith, but he’s walking into open shots that directly exploit the defense
November 4, 2025 at 1:35 PM
Again no boxscore credit, but the ability to draw a secondary defender and hit your big w/dumpoff is a really important skill for a guy that lives off the gravity from your offensive hubs

In short, he can pay off the advantages that Luka/Reaves/Lebron create in multiple w
November 4, 2025 at 12:47 PM
Even when Jake isn't getting boxscore credit, the advantage creation pops

Portland blitzes the Hayes/LaRavia DHO and Jake hits Bronny with the skip pass for a wide open look

Obviously Bronny isn't a viable spacer at this point, but imagine the release valve as Rui/Reaves/Lebron
November 4, 2025 at 12:46 PM
He's not a heavy ballscreen operator by any means, but there are some flashes to suggest he may be able to function as a tertiary option on low volume as we see below

He completely bends the Trailblazer defense here by keeping the dribble alive and forcing Williams to commit
November 4, 2025 at 12:45 PM
Perhaps the most surprising element of LaRavia's game early on has been the secondary playmaking chops

Jake has been surprisingly adept creating advantages without soaking up tons of usage

This kickout off the rebound coupled with the drive + dumpoff to Ayton was an eye-opener
November 4, 2025 at 12:44 PM
Now let's contrast that with Bronny in the back-screener role

Lakers running Spain vs a dropping Horford

◼️Podz attempts to dislodge Bronny from setting the screen, but Bronny refuses to be denied

◼️Horford is a vet and sniffs this out, but look at Bronny adjust + make contact
October 6, 2025 at 1:34 PM
Fast forward to the 3rd qtr

Lakers running Delay Spain vs drop coverage (this is good schematically)

▪️Once again Knecht is dislodged by a smaller player and doesn’t make contact on the intended backscreen for a rolling Hayes

▪️Hayes converts, but this should’ve been much easier w/better execution
October 6, 2025 at 1:03 PM
Let’s talk about execution a bit

LAL running Spain vs soft drop coverage (this is good schematically)

▪️Davis goes before Ayton can set the screen
▪️Knecht lets a considerably smaller player (Spencer) completely dislodge him + prevent the intended backscreen for a rolling Ayton
October 6, 2025 at 12:54 PM
Double Drag Touch Reject

-Reaves/Hayes showing 2x Drag
-LaRavia pass to Hayes and he’s selling Touch action
-Rather than Touch (Pass to Hayes who immediately hands-off to Jake), LaRavia rejects then splits 2 PHX defenders + dives

Good counter vs switch/aggressive top-locking defenses
October 4, 2025 at 2:38 PM
From a schematic perspective, it was encouraging to see lots of Spain action against drop coverage last night

Consistently Exploiting opposing bigs that play center field would be a big step in the right direction for Redick + staff
October 4, 2025 at 1:30 PM
Think some folks talked themselves into improved mechanics for Vanderbilt

Still a notable hitch

After the ball gets above the head, the ball then rotates from just above the left eye to the right side of his head (elbow visibly pointed outward at the exact moment)

Functionally 2 distinct motions

Perhaps the most enticing part of Thiero’s game from a long term perspective is the back-to-basket component

▪️Overpowers smaller/weaker defenders
▪️Solid footwork/pivot ability
▪️Shot 48.6% from midrange on 70 attemp
June 27, 2025 at 9:57 PM
Thiero projects well in Stampede action

-Getting the ball on the move allows him to manifest the run + jump athleticism

-Slot cuts are a fantastic way to get Adou touches without soaking up usage early in his career
June 27, 2025 at 9:55 PM
Finishing upside

▪️66.2% at the rim in half-court scenarios
▪️Ambidextrous finisher with good contact balance
▪️Bodes well for dunker spot projection
June 27, 2025 at 9:54 PM
Excellent touch

-Really good floater in the 8-12ft range
-High arching floater that should be solid at NBA level
