In one of the mini extras they mention miscalculating that late 80s teens would want to see teen pregnancy and so the kids avoided it. I was 14 came out and saw 4 in theaters the year before yet skipped this one so makes sense.

I could see that for 2 also. I do like the parallels between 2 and 5 in the body horror aspect. Plus Christopher Young scored Freddy’s Revenge and Hellraiser!
