Not my usual drawing style, I just inked a sketch done for me by a friend c:

I figured that Wednesday wouldn't really have a lot of fun after drawing the "babysitter" short straw. Worst thing is that she's gotta keep my character from all the lab equipment.

Oh my god, that's great. :) I think she'd warm to him if he showed a genuine interest in the lab equipment... maybe find a very small hazmat suit to contain him. :)

Seasonings are parsley, tarragon (thx @garudina.bsky.social <3), thyme, garlic, some bay leaf from the broth, and salt and pepper. Is bacon a seasoning?

Precooking the beans got them fairly soft. If they fall apart in the soup, that's fine, they'll make it thicker, and the beans are kind of a secondary character anyway.

Remove the bones and drain the broth into secondary pot, wipe pot dry and fry bacon in it, drain off most of the bacon fat and cook the vegetables in what remains.

I decided to precook the beans because I'm not wholly convinced that simmering in the soup will soften them... I guess we'll see!

It's gonna have the ham, navy beans, corn, potatoes, celery, onions, assorted spices. Not a cream soup; I'm going to let the potatoes thicken it up.

I'm not a big ham eater, but one thing I like about it is that there isn't so much of the decontamination as is involved in working with raw meat. I pretty much regard raw chicken as a hazmat situation...
