Thanks to fRI for having us out again! Excited for the work coming out of this project! 🌲🐟
How do different disturbances impact a stream and its riparian zone?
This August, a Water and Fish project used drones equipped with high resolution LiDAR and thermal sensors to survey 24 streams across four site types:
🌲 Forested
🔥 Fire-affected
🪵 Harvested
🏍️ OHV-impacted

If you don't think the IRSS flies #drones in the winter, you've never done field work with Leanna (@la-stack.bsky.social) & Kirk! ❄️

Leanna was out collecting leaf-off #lidar & #ThermalImagery of winder conditions for trout-bearing steams in Alberta with @friresearch.bsky.social!

Found out that TWENTY emails is considered a lot to politicians on an issue.

TWENTY.

As in, they call that getting slammed.

So next time you see a request to email your rep, or call, keep that in mind.

TWENTY is a lot.

I went to my Congressman's local office today. First off, they were surprised that I was there. They said they had been getting phone calls, but I was the first walk-in. That said, the phones were not ringing off the hook. If the DC phone lines are busy, try calling the local office.

Reintroduction I guess - I'm Leanna, a PhD candidate at UBC Forestry in the @irssubc.bsky.social. My research focuses on ALS and drone-based lidar and thermal applications to riparian areas and stream systems on Vancouver Island, Canada. Anticipated defense....sometime this summer 🐟🌲

I use lidRmetrics basically any time I need to run a quick suite of metrics on a point cloud. Endorsed!!
If you're using the `lidR` package and looking to expand your point cloud analysis capabilities, the **lidRmetrics** package might be worth exploring. It offers a variety of additional metrics designed to provide a more detailed characterization of forest structure
