Today while out and about I ran into one elderly man walking across the street with a bottle of water balanced atop his bald head and another with a t-shirt that read in Japanese "the green thing that gets put in the bento" with an illustration of the attached photo.

As a part of taking people around Tokyo, I stopped in a café so young and trendy I couldn't pay with cash. Unthinkable!

Was good coffee though. And every table was also an arcade machine. And the ice cream was a flower.

Also, Gundam statue. Because Gundam statue.

It's not that I am unmoved, but every time I started to feel an earned sense of wonder, it immediately became mingled with the knowledge that the wonder was a manufactured product, and then my brain immediately went down the path of trying to deconstruct it to see how it worked.

I had some visitors in town so I did the Team Labs thing in Odaiba.

I am not sure what I think about it, or if what I think about it would be different if it didn't follow an exhausting week of work. The magic of it should be my jam, but...

When I say I went hard at the start of this term, I mean alliterative Old English and botanical drawing hard.

Listening to the full Hadestown soundtrack while I was out running errands seemed like a good idea until I found myself on a crowded Yokohama-line train right when King Hades tried to sing lalalalalalala.

I was reminiscing about the game Bastion today and since I've done proto-literature classes in EFL before, it got me wondering what a video game as literature in an EFL class look would like.

I bounced off it pretty hard initially because it reminded me of Sierra's The Realm (god help anyone in the tiny group of people who get that reference), but I finally started watching The Wheel of Time and it's good!

I can't help but snicker at Rand'al though. The name I mean. "Okay, Randall..."

There is a little stationery shop near me. I rarely specifically need to go there, but they sell paper like this. And I feel like I should find a use for it and become a regular just to keep that on the market.

I am doing my yearly Bible study again (meaning I'm rewatching Babylon 5) and even though I make fun of this show for being oh so 90s and all its weird quirks, by the Maker I just love it so much!

Not sure it's directly a result of modern politics or just coincidence, but the Tamasakai Costco had a lot of products with Canadian flags on them and a whole seasonal display of Canadian maple syrup.

I picked up a bag of HardBite Yam It Up. They are fantastic.

Every time I see this ad, all I can think is, "What, y'all didn't know how to build a tower that stands up straight?"

Again, I am intrigued by a #Babylon5 remake, but I just wonder how it would work. Who in the present day is going to believe that to make a self-absorbed fading empire turn on all of its former allies, you need a conspiracy where half its navy is taken over by forbidden Shadow technology?

I can only bear witness from the other side of the planet to my birth country destroying itself for so long before it saps my sanity. So I painted on my bicycle bags.

Is there a name for this aesthetic? Perhaps something with the suffix "-punk" inappropriately grafted on?

I wonder if the young people today who grew up with The Simpsons as an established thing are aware that when it first became popular, it triggered a bit of a moral panic.

There were schools that briefly banned Simpsons clothing, believing it would be a bad influence.

Me looking for the secret Gundam series that uses "Rock & Roll Dreams Come Through" or "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as its OP theme song. Come on, it's got to be out there!

I am sorry to distract from your good point that you clearly care a lot about, but I am absolutely delighted by your typo.

I'm now imagining a medieval folk legend called Joe a-Roging, someone who walks the land in a floppy hat and pointy shoes proclaiming absolute garbage, and that gives me joy.
