Finally got around to redoing the Security Silverback episode I had in the queue. The initial pass was OK, but I think the updated version I'm actually releasing is better.

Finally got off my butt and posted a new video to The Security Silverback channel on YouTube.

I've taken a bit of a break from doing The Security Silverback series. Which, I admit, was probably obvious. Now just trying to regain the inertia to get it going once more.

This is, very seriously, one of Randall's best and most clever comics. There are more layers to this the more you look. I checked Explain xkcd to make sure I got them all. I hadn't.

Apparently the clerk at the grocery store tonight gave me the senior discount without my asking.

I've never ask for a senior discount.

I find this both entertaining and mildly tragic. I don't feel like a senior.

But at least my youngest found it amusing.

I took a break from doing videos over the holidays, but threat actors are still at it. Just putting out the first SecuritySilverback video of the new year - with more in the pipe.

Hope to have the next long format one out next week.

In the comments of a Jalopnik article on "what would you only drive if it was free" I saw someone referring to the Tesla CT as a Wankpanzer. I am going to steal that going forward.

Apparently the FBI and CISA come out and say we should all use encrypted messaging after Chinese threat actors breached multiple telco networks. Which is great. Though a real contrast from their usual "we wanna see all your messages!" stance. Yay for privacy?

So here's a question. Is it problematic when a security journalist for a major publication writes an article about a potential 0day that has no CVE, no patch, and no evidence of exploitation, only to recommend the discoverer's patch management product as the only fix?

I'd planned to do a PSA on safe online shopping for the holidays, but the holidays themselves put a wrench in my schedule. But I managed to get it done. So, your cyber secure online shopping PSA - with a bit of help from the FBI.

As I'm getting into creating content for cybersecurity education, I'm trying to figure out what the best medium is. Blogs? Podcasts? Short videos? Longer videos? Some combination?

I know what works for me, but what'll work for everyone else? Where is that sweet spot for getting the message out?

A couple days ago I posted the latest Security Silverback video on YouTube, talking about a new-to-me cryptocurrency scam that showed up in my comments. I asked if anyone wanted to bet on it happening again and we have a winner. The scam appeared in the comments of a video talking about the scam.

In spite of The Security Silverback being a new, small, cybersecurity channel, we still managed to get a cryptocurrency scammer in the comments. Twice. Which prompted the latest session.

It seems that D-Link's advising people to retire more End of Life kit because of known vulnerabilities. Which, to be honest, is what should happen. No shade on them for standing by EOL meaning EOL.

So, after hunting for a new job for the last few months, I've decided to do a cyber security podcast of sorts. I'm still working out exactly where to focus between recent incidents, CVEs, security tips for normal people, or a combination. But I am going to make it happen.
