Thereafter, we explain the thought process behind the design of our IML workflow (based on Dudley/Kristensson 2018), including a detailed explanation of our ethical considerations. Finally, we describe in detail the specifics of our platform's system architecture. /4

We then give an account of a requirements workshop we held with stakeholders from SMEs across a variety of domains (from telecommunications and energy through agriculture and metals to software and health) to elicit a set of platform requirements. /3

After giving a bit of background on explainable AI (XAI) and interactive ML (IML), we discuss our criteria for selecting a framework for the backend; after narrowing it down to two choices, we arrived at Label Studio (over Marcelle) as our framework of choice. /2

A bit late, but I haven't shared this article yet: My colleagues and I have published a conference paper on the design of TrustAI, our user-centred open-source platform for interactively trainable and adaptable ML models (still a work in progress). doi.org/10.1007/978-... /1

We are still looking for interviewees working on and with open-source software, especially from thus far underrepresented groups (people with little to medium experience working on OSS, those in mid-career stages (10–20 years on the job), women and nonbinary people, people over 45 years old).
September 1, 2025 at 8:02 AM
Do you regularly work with or develop open-source software? Then we would love to talk to you!

We are conducting research on how people think about OSS quality and how they evaluate OSS projects. We want to interview people to gather all kinds of perspectives. /1

These three use cases were then discussed further in a data and requirements workshop with domain experts (including many interview participants from earlier) to consider sustainability impact, relevant stakeholders and possible end users, etc. /7

After some content analysis, we consolidated the challenges that emerged in the interview transcripts into fifteen possible use cases. /4

We first conducted semi-structured interviews with key domain experts from state and local government to elicit challenges they face in their work and to get an overview of what kinds of data might be available. /3

In this article, we present the transdisciplinary methodology we designed to systematically identify and evaluated possible use cases to focus on as we continue our project. So, what did we do? /2

We have published (at ICEDEG 2025) the first major results from SCiNDTiLA, our project investigating how smart city and digital twin concepts can be adapted and made useful in small-town and rural environments. doi.org/10.1109/ICED... /1

Looking at app behaviour and functionalities, network traffic, privacy policies, etc., we found that sideloaded apps are more likely to hide their presence, require excessive permissions, and some even transmitted sensitive data unencrypted. /3
