Hello, Bluesky! I’m a woodcarver/furniture maker who makes sculptures and tables with an excessive amount of time and care

I haven’t gotten much traction on mainstream social media sites, so I figured I’d try this one out to share my creations and passions with you all

I hope you have a nice day!
A huge thank you to Ernesto and Brian, the owners of The Manos Gallery, for putting on such a spectacular exhibition at the new location in New Kensington

Its beyond impressive how quickly they transformed such a large building in only a matter of weeks in preparation for the event

Do you ever make something you’re so happy with that you want to be able to reproduce it again and again like you have a cloning machine? That’s why I make silicone molds, and sometimes they don’t always turn out right. If you can’t tell, this is one of those times.

Imperfect Symmetry no. 2 side B

When working with bookmatched wood, only one side of the wood has a symmetrical grain pattern. This is the non symmetrical side. I always carve my sculptures all the way around, even in a case like this where it may seem like it doesn’t make sense

Imperfect Symmetry #2

The preservation of natural formations in wood is a crucial component of these carvings. Instead of eliminating parts others consider flaws to have more control over the shape of the sculpture, I integrate them into the overall form, allowing the wood to dictate its own design

Everyone on Reddit who told me you can’t finish wood sanded to 10,000 grit was wrong. You absolutely can, it’s just not worth the time and effort it takes to achieve the marginal gain in beauty.

Smoothing things out.
I consider this to be the most impactful step of my process, when I round out all of the sharp forms I’ve carved and blend elements of the sculpture together- transforming the wood into a liquid.

Sometimes these silicone molds turn out perfectly the first time. Sometimes they coat the wooden bowl you painstakingly carved, sanded, and polished to 10,000 grit with tacky, greasy uncured silicone. Can you guess which one of those things happened here?

I carved this weird thing 2 years ago, and figured it could use a good polish to freshen it up. It was sanded to 10,000 grit before getting finished with some very thin coats of shellac, a treatment I’d do more often if it wasn’t such a pain.

Another Liquid Dream Kitten is welcomed to the world. A couple weeks ago, Rayven (my girlfriend) found this poor little thing under a shed. We pulled over 50 ticks off of her, and she was so emaciated that she would have died if we didn’t take her in.

When making resin sculptures, what do you do with leftover epoxy after you’re done pouring? If you’re me, the answer is simple- you put it in another mold! The way layers interact with the contours creates some really interesting shapes.

⚠️⛔️NOT FOR RECT@L USE⛔️⚠️
I’ve been getting some concerning comments on these abstract resin sculptures so let me be clear: these are NOT supposed to be put in any orifice of the human body. Though you may be tempted to, I beg you to refrain from doing so.

I knew this resin sculpture was gonna be messed up after it started leaking out the sides of the mold. Learned my lesson to use rubber bands vertically as well as horizontally. I guess it’s still a work of art in a sense, despite its major imperfections.

What color should I make the next batch? I don’t know what they put in these pigments to make them glow in the dark, but I really like the vibe they give my sculptures. Now my art can be enjoyed in the dark.

Every time I pull a resin sculpture out of one of these silicone molds, it’s like uncovering a mystery. Did it cure properly? Did the bubbles escape before it hardened? Are there any voids? The only way to find out is to open it up.

This one didn’t turn out as well as it could have.

Birthing another ethereal abstract sculpture from its squishy, undulating silicone womb.

Making molds of wood carvings like this is almost more trouble than it’s worth and risks ruining the wood, but I had to try it out.

Another mystery object from another realm freed from its rubbery prison.

These two part molds are such a pain to make, but they’re the best way to faithfully replicate my work

The symmetry of duality, chaos and order intertwined as two sides of the same coin. Inseparable but immiscible.

Bookmatched maple burl wood carved, sanded, and polished to 3,000 grit. So much detail in the grain that it barely feels real. And it barely is, yet here it is.

Mystery sculpture revealed. I apologize for the hiatus, I was recently attacked by two pitbulls while trying to fend them off with a knife to protect my girlfriend’s cat that got outside.
