I've been thinking about this scene from half way through the first Lord of the Rings movie, where Sam and Frodo think they've finally finished their big scary adventure, and they are ready to safely go back home.
Sam and Frodo in Rivendell. Sam: "We did what Gandalf wanted didn't we? We got the Ring this far to Rivendell and then I thought, seein' as how you're on the mend, we'd be off soon. Off home." Frodo: "You're right Sam. We did what we set out to do. The Ring will be safe in Rivendell. I am ready to go home."

Here is a "reconstruction" of swans, and a possible reconstruction of Therizinosaurus.
Drawing of two swans, but horrifying looking because it assumes they are shaped like their skeleton with no feathers, creepy long snake-like necks, and weird arms that end in spear-like points (the wings) Therizinosaurus standing upright and covered in a thick layer fur/feathers, so arms blend in with the body and you can just barely see the long claws on trhe hands. Looks a bit muppet-ish.

Latest 538 national polling average has Kamala Harris in the lead, and the error bars have now (barely) separated!

So now, she's ahead by more than the margin of error! (if I understand correctly)

538 polling average on Aug 10, 2024. Harris' numbers are going up, to a +2.3 lead (45.7% to 43.4%). There is an arrow pointing to how in the last little gain, the error bars have finally just barely separated, so Harris is now at ahead by more than the error margin!

I specifically went to therapy and over several sessions tried to explore "why can't I make myself reply to this email that I already know the short response I should give???" and didn't get much that helped.

I then stumbled across this tweet, which set me on researching ADHD

* Adderall doesn't work the same on everyone. For me, day 1 was as magical as that, but over time it's become half-magical (still pretty magical). Also, there are lots of problems with Adderall shortages.

This brings us to the next thing, which is commonly understood in industrial-grade trust and safety circles, but I think less so on newer networks, which have mostly experienced old-school adversaries—basic scammers and spammers, distributors of illegal and horrible content, and garden-variety amateur Nazis and trolls—which is that although those blunter and less sophisticated harms are still quite bad, the more sophisticated threats that are common on the big centralized platforms are considerably more difficult to identify and root out. And if the people running new networks don’t realize that what we’re seeing right now are the starter levels, they’re going to be way behind the ball when better organized adversaries arrive.
