I can't help but think the $1Bs see TT creators losing access to that income as a feature, not a bug. Too many were becoming a little too self-sufficient and needed to be bought to heel. More self-sufficient economically and also in narratives they accept. Not the sole explanation but one of many.

He's been an instinctual institutionalist forever. Even after his being in office isn't on the line, he has no muscle memory for upsetting the apple cart, because he's never wanted to. He did some good while in office but nothing fundamentally transformative.
