July 9, 1958, 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit near Lituya Bay, causing rockslide there that created an estimated 1720 foot high megatsunami. Two people in a fishing boat died. Red arrow shows landslide scar; yellow is highwater mark. Lighter shore areas are where wave cleared trees.
