I’m sorry you were denied. But again, it seems like you have a personal gripe because you were denied something you needed while other people are getting accepted. THAT IS NOT THEIR FAULT. Take it up with the system itself.

Okay so the white men you’re talking about are not the same as poor black people who actually really do need this assistance. And again— not their fault that people are taking advantage of a system they need because of institutionalized racism.

And not just poor black people but every other group.

Slaves risked their lives to get to safety and had to avoid getting caught or they’d die. They didn’t just walk 🙄

Okay so that’s you. Sounds like you didn’t apply for programs you could’ve qualified for, but instead you’re shitting on people who did and are getting help. It’s not their fault your shitty situation was shitty and you didn’t lean on anyone else.

There’s always going to be people who take advantage of systems of help. But that doesn’t mean we stop it for everyone. Because people need help. Again I’m not making excuses for anyone. I’m trying to explain a situation to you that you’ve obviously never actually been in to understand it.

And you call yourself a follower of God? You clearly have no compassion for others. If you wanted government assistance then apply for it. Make your own documentary. It’s being done to try and actually make a difference in people’s lives. You assuming no one on assistance deserves it is gross.

Where do you want them to walk to if they can’t afford a new house in a better area? These events ARE discriminate. The ninth ward is a majority black community because of the results of slavery and Jim Crow laws.

Except there are good people in the south. There are good poor people. Good black people. “Surviving” may look like not being able to leave. It may look like barely putting food on the table. Not eating so your kids can. We raise awareness about issues because they MATTER. People matter. Do better.

I recommend you watch both documentaries about Katrina that have recently been released on Hulu and Netflix. You might have a little more compassion after.

Okay, but your story is not the typical story. I’m very happy to hear you were able to leave but not everyone can do that. It’s not an excuse when it’s the reality. You can want better. You can work really hard for it. But that doesn’t mean change is easily accessible.

Maybe because a lot of the ninth ward is poor. They can’t afford to leave or start over.
