Ahhh that's definitely illuminating. I guess I was tunnel-visioning on depth instead of breadth, and just looking at the overall field's results at Nathan's in the last few years. But in that regard, I do have to wonder how competitive eating is doing as a "legitimate" competition vs spectacle.

Is competitive eating just cooked in general after being a millennial fad? Feels like Joey is the last remaining star, and the runner-up numbers have become pretty paltry.

I know it doesn't quite roll off the tongue to say "we sucked for 20 years—except that one fun season in 2012-13," but it still kills me that even Knicks fans join the mainstream media in dismissing that season for the sake of a more dramatic narrative (and I realize that was a middle-ceiling team).

I'm inclined to think it's some Hornets staffer who sold tips on the team's tanking plans (shutting down Rozier for the season after first quarter with a bogus injury) than Rozier being in on it himself? Risk-reward doesn't make sense for established players given the low $$$ involved.
