Last year we replenished the non-candy choices, and the weather wasn't great so we didn't get a lot of kids. Which means lots of leftover stuffy choices!

An author describes reading a chapter of her current work and reflecting on the character development with her therapist and husband and others. At the begging of the following chapter the author puts revisions 11 and 12 side by side for comparison. This goes on for several pages.

I'm always a little off-script so here are some tiny roses on huge shrubs and a very cool black cat made of folded book pages and ink by my neighbor's daughter.

So this is how people cope. They tell themselves it won't happen at their kids' school.

I never believed that in thirteen years of sending my child to school. I never once let her leave the house without seeing my face in the morning, never once started my day without seeing hers, just in case.
A parent of a student at the high school which had a mass shooting today is quoted in a CBS News article as saying "Obviously, you don't think it's going to happen at your school or to your child, then it happens in your backyard and you're shocked. But it seems to be happening so much that we shouldn't be shocked, I guess."
