Retired youth librarian. Avid reader. Loves cooking, writing, coffee and tea, happily married 21 years, love my neighbors and my 8 year old cat
Grateful today. The cat is sleeping on my bed, my husband made breakfast for me, and I have paid our mortgage:) I am reading a new book and feel some ease. A year ago, we weren’t sure what was going to be happening and where we would live, and whether it would all work out. It did!

I really love this article by James Carville. Role-dope, Dems! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/25/o...
Opinion | James Carville: The Best Thing Democrats Can Do in This Moment
There’s nothing Democrats can legitimately do to stop Trump, so we need a tactical pause in our fight to plan for the future.

Who is leaving this country or making plans to do so? I support you if you have the ability, the desire and the courage. How many others left their countries when conditions made a happy, free life impossible? Many of our grandparents and great grandparents did to come here.

I picked this up yesterday at Prince Books in downtown Norfolk. I’ve been hooting and laughing out loud. He’s a great writer, very funny. The book is based on the death of his mom ( she was 43) when he was 5 years old, in a family of 10 siblings in Northern Ireland.

If you are a crafter in the 757, head over to MacArthur Center. It’s the only bright light happening there besides the art galleries. You can bring craft supplies there to recycle and buy great things very reasonably! They also have gifts and articles and arts made by local artists.

Keeping up with my library holds is like a part time job- and I LOVE reading so it’s the best use of so much free time! Currently reading Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas ( part love story with lots of magical healing and vampires) and How the Light Gets by Joyce Maynard, her most recent book.

Had a lovely breakfast meetup with Skye today@FR8house Coffee Co. in the Railyard district of Norfolk. Delish breakfast offerings, not so many, but tasty, and I had a beautiful almond latte! fr8housecoffee.com

Currently reading The Appeal by Janice Halley. A whodunnit like no other, an epistolary novel. Capricious and fun, with a large cast of characters.

Checking in to say hello and hoping we all hang in there in 2025. It is a different team in DC, with perspectives that baffle intelligent people, so we can all do what we can to stay honest, clear sighted, balanced, hopeful and kind to each other.

I don’t want to post 20 books, but I’d like to hear from folks about the most recent book you really loved. I’ll go: James by Percival Everett.
