Unpopular opinion. Ultimately, MAGA will not defy Trump, and Trump delights in the suffering of the masses. Whether due to passing of Rep appropriations, or endless shutdown, millions of Americans are soon going to lose their coverage, and there's nothing Dems can do to stop it.

Bear in mind, there's both confirmation bias and sampling bias at play here. Trust data, not anectdotal perceptions. At least until recently, incoming recruitment numbers polled pretty evenly across political views; and soldiers unable to leave their political leanings off base were discharged.

However, just as water can erode the hardest rock and reshape the largest mountains, so too could policies of a tyrannical govt transform our military into something else, in time. *That* is the military we should fear. And I dont think it'd take decades to get there.

I think both sides are right: there's no reason to fear the military we have today. After WWII it was reconstructed to be functionally apolitical and domestically impotent, to the soldier. By design, any attempt to use today's military for a coup would fail before it even started. HOWEVER. (1/2)
