They seem to have a latent definition of "moderate" = what the majority of the public believe. And that's super-problematic given the US information environment. There's a reason "academic" measures are useful...

(I know, there's Matt and David's book on the differences between the parties, but the editorial doesn't get into that at all.)

Really weird to me how NYT seems to do far less analysis of the GOP. The editorial claims Dems have "moved significantly to the left since Mr. Obama left office."

Okay, but studies of asymmetric polarization show a much bigger GOP shift to the right. Why then doesn't that cost them?

💯 agreed, but I actually think that makes it easier to see other ppl attempting to project coherence where it doesn't exist. Bunch of Quincy and DP people rushed to justify Trump's foreign policy w/o establishing how his personal interest would subvert the national interest they pushed for.

I've been wondering if we're witnessing a test of the green lantern theory of IR. Can something be of not be a national interest simply bc the prez declares so?

I think restrainers esp have this hidden assumption. But ofc it ignores actual interdependencies, meaning we will eventually bear costs.

Also, @chenoweth.bsky.social and @djpressman.bsky.social, I figure you're still collecting protest data? Came across a small No Kings protest in Lindstrom, MN. 3-5 people in the town square.

What can change the nature of a man? Out of these two dozen choices, which best matches what I believe?

One thing I loved about Planescape: Torment was that it frequently gave you a ton of choices in your dialogue responses. While they didn't mean anything for gameplay or story, I thought through their meaning and implications of each because I could choose from so many.
