Doing some premature optimization after finding this thread. Turns out in my testing that BitMaps in Godot 4.5 are much faster than arrays for set and get operations, and surprisingly 2D arrays are much faster than 1D arrays of booleans

We don't want a million Roberts and Jameses, so for now, names are selected at random, non-weighted, from one of the lists. A random surname is also applied, though this is currently sourced from modern, not period, data.

This gives us the top 1000 male and female baby names from 1923-1943. To find unisex names, I joined the datasets and selected all names with a gendered ratio less than 20:1. This results in 75 unisex names.

Firing up the ol' Jupyter Notebook to make a random name generator for my roguelike project. The game is based in the late 1960s, so I'm starting with open-source U.S. census data on baby names from 1923-1943.
