I especially appreciate their discussion on hyperfocus, which I refer to as "hyperfixation" instead. Hyperfocus seems to imply a "mode," but it's more of a compulsion that comes and goes on a whim. I'd argue that anything that causes you to ignore hunger or thirst is not exactly "beneficial."

That's nothing, I had to get up at 5am in the morning this morning

I think the huge amount of memes and jokes about the game's bugs and quirks are a testament to how beloved it is. I don't think I've ever seen a meme for Starfield or Fallout 76, even in communities dedicated to those games.

I can't help but feel this one was inspired by a nightmare you had

I want the shiny gadget.

The shiny gadget is used for a particular hobby.

Therefore I now do that hobby.

Brain: "Ohhh it's coming. And it'll be bad. Sooo bad. The worst thing you've ever experienced."

Repeat ad nauseum.

The empowerment you get from being able to put a name on the problems you've had so long cannot be understated. Not only does it help you understand that those problems weren't your fault, but it also gives you the confidence that you can learn to live with yourself instead of against yourself.

Anacharismatic, perhaps?

All going without references has ever done for me is make me feel frustrated that the thing I'm making isn't coming out the way I want.

You can look at real life or even other art and still put your own soul into it without copying. Just make it your own. That's all that's required of you.

A lot of the time when I decide to make art, I'll try to jump into it without any sort of reference, so it feels "more my own."

This is a crazy thing to do, especially as a beginner. But even professionals use references more often than not.

It starts at 20 unread, and you think "Eh, it can wait. That's not very many."

Then 100. "Still not that bad, it was WAY more last time."

Then 1000. "Oh, that's a lot. But clearing them all was a pain last time, I don't want to go through it again."

Then 10000. "I'm overwhelmed and afraid."

Right. I think it could have been saved by increasing the points necessary to go to the next tier, but allowing tier advancement across all trees instead of just the one you're invested in. I also think the other trees don't face this issue nearly as much, especially combat and social.

But I do think there are other issues with the game, and I'm hoping injecting some mods will improve it for me. I loved it to death when I first played, but my chronic restart-itis made the flaws more glaring when I tried to do a different play style.

His example was the physical tree. The two stealth skills are a tier 1 and a tier 4 skill, so he'd need 12 points in physical to get to tier 4. But aside from sneak the other skills in tier 1 are food, carry weight, and reduced damage. He felt they didn't suit what he wanted for the character.

All the hollow spaces must be filled, otherwise the thoughts bounce around and collide endlessly like Pachinko
