The new Star Trek producers all say stuff like this and I feel it's a complete fallacy (and they know it) - assuming that there's an uncaptured audience out there whose preferences you need to meet and that you can't shape people's preferences by just making a really good Star Trek show.

Perhaps there are some things we simply shouldn't be compromising with, and it's decent and moral to uphold this, not authoritarian. What basis do you even have to be talking about 'pet issues' going 'out the window'?
