If you like romance with a hint of depth (tw: chronic pain, mental illness etc) you will inhale these in a day each tops. Heroines are funny as hell. very addictive

Easily my favourite non fiction book. I read this every two years or so.

For anyone who wants to know how to pull off an actual revolution. Easily my favourite biography.

Before the internet I had a strong appreciation for open misogyny. it's better than men gaslighting women with romance. there is a line in this book: "he saw the hurt on her face and he looked at her again, for there is no balm more soothing to a man's heart than the hurt he has caused a woman"

Not sure this is my favourite Morrison but is the first one I read. It took time for me to read another one because her books sit with me and to be honest, slightly overwhelm me. Sula right down scares me, it's so good. But I remember the feeling of Song of Solomon so well and I'm still stunned.

I could say the same of this book, but I must add that seeing any of the films, in all of their glory, will not immerse you so completely in these women's skin as Ms Walker's work.

No one ever needs to say anything about this book, except: just read it.

And if you like tragedy and romance but also want to laugh like a drain, Marian Keyes has this way of disguising hard core stuff with fluff and big laughs, but the stories are always grounded in such hard relities, she will actually make you cry. This one is about grief and my personal fave.

But if you don't have time to ruin your life with Williams, I give you a short punch to the gut from Baldwin. I inhaled this book in a sitting and have never stopped being haunted by its short, brutal romanticism.

This man is ridiculous. If you are not aware of the work of Tad Williams, please do yourself a favour.

Then one day, I walked into 2nd hand book store and found a book called The Dragonbone Chair. This series ruined me. It awakened a hunger for sci-fi fantasy that is a constant gaping hole in my soul. Not to be dramatic or anything.

While getting seriously radicalized. Amilcar Cabral and his socialist, grassroots policies should really be better known.

And yes it was university so I was also horny as hell
December 24, 2024 at 2:42 PM
Until university, my life had been books my parents chose, books that happened to be floating around with my friends or books from the library. This is one of the first books I spent my own money on and re-read immediately after the last page.
