You could try some of the alt clients, since they usually backport Ring Racers lighting and features. iirc the most popular one is Srb2kart-Saturn, which i also run on my server due to its improved netcode (per-client resync for example).
It comes with more qol features too :3

Please be aware that due to how Potion Seller completely rewrites parts of difficulty menu's code, these two mods are not compatible with each-other.
