A lot of people clearly didn’t watch the full clip and are missing the context of this quote. Immediately after he said “Stephen Miller is not the problem. Sanctuary cities are the problem.” Lest anyone get excited (who would!) thinking Lindsey Graham had found his conscience again.

It took them way too long but they’ve finally got the right messaging down. Or close enough at least. They are right to state that the reason for the partial shutdown will be Republican’s refusal to agree to common sense accountability measures for DHS, despite widespread public support for such.

Not a very inspiring response. Hard to know if USSF leadership has given directives to avoid politics considering the potential World Cup implications with support required from the notoriously volatile and vindictive Trump administration.

A great example of how you actually turn down the temperature. Not only are they treating the protestors respectfully and in a way that acknowledges both their humanity and their right to protest, but it also humanizes the NG members as well. ICE could operate in the same way, but CHOOSES not to.

I respectfully disagree. Noem and Bovino (Noem especially) can be easily replaced with other “yes men”. The bare minimum should be no masks so that ICE and CBP officers have reason to fear future accountability even if there is no accountability now. Make no masks a law and force them to violate it.

To be more specific, isn’t it not whether the agent “reasonably believed” that he was in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury but whether a “reasonable agent” confronted with similar circumstances would believe that?

It’s equally telling that amongst all of their other lies, that’s not even one they’re bothering to attempt to tell. There are a few possible reasons for that, most concerning is that they’re making the case that’s a justification they don’t even need in order to use deadly force against protestors.

One of the most enraging things I’ve read this week. Which is saying A LOT considering current events. What a royally out of touch bozo, the film industry should outright refuse to work with him. Sadly, money talks.

This bozo is royally out of touch. The film industry should outright refuse to work with Netflix as long as the company is led by idiots with this sort of attitude towards film.

Super important point. Although I suppose that assumes that they don’t selectively carry out mass deportation operations solely in blue states. I know there’s been quite a bit in TN, but I’ve heard very little about ICE activity in Florida and Texas?
January 16, 2026 at 9:20 PM
We should start with something almost everyone can agree on. ICE and CBP should be accountable to the public. That means no masks and it means transparency in operations and investigations. Requiring local approval will be a nonstarter for many, but requiring local notification may be doable.

And also completely ignores the significance of his own implication, which is that state actors charged with impartial enforcement of the law are operating with clear ideological bias and perceive their role, in part, as subduing the portion of the American public they view to be their opposition.

The absolute bare minimum for Dems (and one with significant public support) should be banning masks for DHS personnel conducting routine operations. The biggest incentivizer of DHS lawlessness is their perceived freedom from accountability - not just now but in the future due to their anonymity.

Hard to argue with his #1!

People need to understand that individual accountability is not guaranteed because our laws and polices favor LEO’s. What we CAN do is say “Whether lawful or not, the LEO’s response was not appropriate or objectively reasonable”. And then we can go do the work to try to change those laws/policies.
January 9, 2026 at 9:43 PM
People need to understand that you can’t guarantee individual accountability if the law and policies are slanted to the LEO’s side. What we can do is say “Lawful or not, this shooting was not appropriate or objectively reasonable” and then go out and work to change the laws and policies.
January 9, 2026 at 9:32 PM
And while I understand the desire to debate whether this shooting was legally justified, consistent with policy, etc. THIS is the real issue that should be the focus of public attention right now. Every major use of force case always gets looked at in a vacuum and it’s infuriating.

Very hard to justify from this angle. Absolutely tragic. And one thing we can almost guarantee is there will be no accountability from DHS. And in the absence of accountability how do you prevent this from becoming commonplace?

Wowzers, please fire whatever consultant gave you the impression this was the message that would resonate with your voters/constituents. In fact, please just fire all of your consultants who have so clearly given you bad advice more broadly about how to respond to this moment in history.
