And that’s the story! I mailed it back to my friend (as they live on the other side of the country from me now) and their dog is already cuddling on it. Before I sent it off I made sure to get some good final photos tho 🌹

And to prevent further tears on the many other seams along the quilt top, I added more quilting to the whole thing. This should help any stresses and strain on the blanket to lean into those quilting stitches rather than my scant HST stitches.

I used a kind of reverse cathedral windows technique, where I placed the patch under the split seam, and rolled the edges of the quilt top back to create an orange peel shape, before whipstitching it down by hand.

So the quilt came back to my sewing office in March of this year. Over the following months I spent my downtime handsewing patches, using the scraps I still had from the original tattoo patterned backing fabric. Because yes, I hoard fabric 😅

Most notably I used too scant of a seam allowance on the half-square-triangle pieces. Over years of use (and many snuggles from the dog’s claws) those seams started to pull apart.

My personal best of show continues to be this springtime quilt I made from 2022-23, titled “Bloom Through Adversity.” First quilt I made just for me 🥰 This past year it won a ribbon at my state fair in the hand quilting category!
