Trying to decide my reading goals for next year and did you know that if you read one Star Trek novel per week, you'd be at it for like a decade or something? I think I probably need some ways to make some cuts, cause I want to work in some westerns, indies, and new releases too. #BookSky #AmReading

Another alien bug, or the beginning of one anyway. I'll probably draw a lot of these and then just keep my favorites for the project. #art #drawing #artist

Just caught myself missing an entire line of hand-made sci-fi writing from my novel. Glad I caught that. Would've been really embarrassing. Kind of surprised it didn't come up before now, though?

My son: Grandma, play with me!
Me: Daddy will play.
My son: No, I don't want daddy to play. Go keep cleaning, daddy.

Authors: Where do you send your digital ARCs for review? Asking for sci-fi and/or queer-leaning fiction, specifically. Can be magazines, sites, cool people that read a lot, whatever. #writing #writers

Going back through the glyphs I made for this novel, it's funny to find little errors. Like graphic typos. Didn't stop my editor from solving the glyphs in less than a day, so nbd I guess, but I'm still fixing them up. #writing #authors #art #BookSky

Working on the glyphic system that features in my space opera (Queen Pyre Ever Screaming releases in January!), and really enjoying the outcome. Some of my favorite words that I've put into glyphs today. #writing #art #BookSky

Putting a bit of work into alien butterflies today. Don't want to overdo visual elements in my stories. They need to stay prose- focused. But don't want to miss opportunities to expand and get creative either.

Launch of my novel was pushed back to January, and that's okay. Life has been a lot lately, and I think that's true for all of us! So I can't complain about a couple months of breathing room.

I'd like to think that AI can't imitate the kind of multimodal work I'm doing right now. On the other hand, I really don't want to have to think about that!

Me to myself while #writing, "This feels wrong. I'm going to have to rewrite this. Oh well, just catch vibes for now."

Me, three years later, "And these remain some of the most inspired lines in the whole book."

Started "I Cheerfully Refuse" be Leif Enger. My first book by the author, but the summary sounds right about my alley. Love dystopian weirdness. That said, the opening has been very ivory-tower-literary anti-sentimental, side-eying interesting subjects in favor of perfunctory quirkiness. #BookSky

Finished "Hondo" during a road trip. I found the military maneuvering at the end fascinating. Mostly made me want to read more real history about the era. The conclusion of the novel was a bit clumsy and abrupt. Overall a fascinating, troubled book with moments of shocking beauty. #BookSky #Western

Reading Hondo. A henchman goes down and LL spends two pages digging into the tragic waste of the man's life. Beautiful, heartbreaking pages out of nowhere. Honestly needed a half hour to recover from that. #BookSky #Western

Reading Hondo. Really like how this story handles soldiers. It kind of epitomizes the machismo ideal of honorable service. Just that right mix of mythic fantasy and real world authenticity, with all the romanticized brutality that makes the historical military drama work. #BookSky #Western

Thinking about my grandpa reading these lines near the end of his life. Almost biblical before a segue into the mindset of soldiers. He'd been a sailor in WW2, but was never one to tell war stories, so we don't know much. Anyway, I wonder how felt about these lines, book in his hands. #BookSky

My novel, Queen Pyre Ever Screaming, is coming from Balance of Seven in November! A dark space opera, it tells the stories of an ensemble of narrators - a laborer, a soldier, an addict, and others - who become truthseekers in a galaxy collapsing into war. Can't wait to share more! #BookSky #Writers

When my grandpa passed away, I inherited a collection of worn down Louis L'Amours. From his bookmark, he had Hondo in the hospital with him. LL's first book. I'm sure the book held a lot of nostalgia for him: a raw new writer's primordial formula for essential Westerns. #BookSky

Just finished reading through the 16-book Vorkosigan Saga. Could use a simpler one-off or something as a reset before digging into something else big. What works as a palate cleanser for your reading? #booksky
