I agree but I also feel like certain communities are seeing much more extreme threats than the general population. I don’t know if MAGA will be able to successfully ‘other’ democrats, but they are trying, and with historically oppressed groups (brown, black, LGBTQ+, women) they’re succeeding.

It seems like a transparent case of 'if you say it enough, some people will start to believe it (or at least think maybe it's true). It's a classic propaganda technique.
