It's clear she's fond of waiting, so I'll let her enjoy herself a little longer. This is a skit I wrote a while ago; a hypothetical conversation between Turtle and Umber had the latter never left the academy abruptly.

The format was written for a blog and doesn't translate well to bsky. I tried my best to convert it anyway.

Umber the Mudwing and Turtle the Seawing are inside their sleeping cave. Umber is lying on his back on a bed-like stone platform while reading a scroll overhead. It is rolled out and sprawling all over his belly and spilling onto the floor. Turtle is a few paces away, lying on his stomach and writing on something. An abacus sits next to him, implying he is doing math. Text: (Sounds of scroll rustling and pen scratching) TURTLE: ... The same scene as before, except Turtle turns away and starts speaking. Umber, letting his scroll rest on his chest, listens intently. Text: TURTLE: ... So, the Sea Queen hugged me the other day. UMBER: Oh? Your moms? When was that? TURTLE: While the whole Darkstalker kerfuffle happened. I returned home for a bit and she, well, she gave me a hug. For the first time... ever. A close up of Turtle scratching his neck and fidgeting with his hands. Umber can be seen looking at him from behind him. Text: UMBER: That's a big deal, isn't it? You mentioned she's not much of a huggy one? TURTLE: Oh, no no, she is plenty affectionate with Anemone and Auklet. It depends on whether you were born, uh, well, "the way she wants". UMBER: Ah, I'm sorry. Still, she did it, right? How did it make you feel? TURTLE: Oh, good. It was… nice. ... A shot showing Umber now lying on his stomach and having put the scroll away entirely, fully focused on the conversation. A close-up of Turtle's uncertain face is in the foreground. Text: UMBER: I noticed you called her "the Sea Queen", when before you would always call her "mother"? TURTLE: Well, you know… I, uh… It, put some things into perspective for me. (sighs) That kind of tender moment... I've been waiting for it all of my life. It was really nice when she finally went and noticed me; called me by my name even. I'm happy that she did; I can maybe finally start to move on from some things that have been weighing on me. But it's weird. I've spent so long waiting, and hoping, and wanting. Now that it happened I kind of realized… I don't really know her? I know Anemone, I know Auklet. Heck, I even know Tsunami and she's only been aware of my existence for a few months.

Working on proper uniform sheets for each "class" of Gremlin soldier. Menders get the first go as the healers and, assumedly, combat engineers. They're quite vital to the Royal Forces.

Why is it always an Owl that's a nerdy book reading type? Still love that guy he's awesome his name's Sigmund by the way and he's one of npc's you can meet in game called Brew. Pretty cool one if you'd ask me.
