The charitable explanation is they believe healthcare should be cheap enough that you can pay for it out of pocket without insurance.
In their defense, medical procedures that aren’t covered by insurance *have* gotten significantly cheaper while covered care has skyrocketed in price.

Ok. That’s a non sequitur. The person above me claimed they never saw what JD Vance is describing. I don’t believe that. I’ve seen tons of people on food stamps buy cigarettes, lotto tickets, alcohol and other crap. I’ve seen a lot of poor people claim other people on food stamps are the problem.

If my dad didn’t waste his money being an alcoholic and giving himself cancer, he would have accumulated enough assets to no longer qualify for SNAP. Are all poor people like this? No. But saying you never saw it working at a grocery store is unbelievable to me.

Poor people don’t come from intergenerational wealth. That’s nonsense.

Wendy’s fries used to be so good! I’m glad I’m not misremembering.

That’s genuinely shocking to me. Growing up my dad used food stamps to buy food, then bought alcohol and cigarettes with cash. I saw a lot of others do it. I kinda don’t believe you never saw poor people buy alcohol and cigarettes after using food stamps. Maybe you weren’t paying attention.

When I was a teen my older brother was held in jail by DHS for 18 months for no reason other than they didn’t want to release him but were too lazy to deport him. ICE deported a woman I knew out of nowhere, broke her wrist while shoving her on a plane and didn’t provide any care. None of this is new

In their defense, I read National Review periodically and all their writers are insufferable.

Wow, thank you! Can you send me a DM? Yours are closed.
When I was a kid, it was pretty bad. They had in-person visits, but you were allowed to touch the inmate. There was a mesh screen between visitors and inmates. They yelled at you if you touched the screen. It’s worse now.

That’s a great resource! The county website says it only allows video calls and not in-person visits, but I want to call and confirm that is accurate. They now charges inmates if they want to do more than 1 video visit per week! That’s honestly shocking. I didn’t think it could get worse.

I’m going to try to extend some grace and assume you’re unwilling to help after making a suggestion is because you don’t actually know how to do either. But I hope you can see the irony of that.

Thank you! I’ll send you a DM when my daughter falls asleep. It’s Oakland County jail in Michigan. Basically people need to buy basic necessities at commissary but the prices are insane. I think they still don’t allow in person visitation, but I need to double check.

Offering suggestions isn’t actually helping someone implement them. Activism takes time, skills and resources. When I asked how to actually *do* what you suggested, your response is to tell me to fuck off. Thank you for illustrating my point though.

I come from a community where most people’s terminal degree was a high school diploma, english is their second language, they’re about to go hungry because they’re losing food stamps, some are still paying debts from being in jail. Just because something is easy to YOU doesn’t mean it’s easy.

Great idea. How do you do any part of that? How do I make a flyer? How do I get the money to print it? How do I distribute it? How do I get the money to distribute it? How do I take care of my family while doing this?

ICE has always been terrible and violent. Clinton signed the IIRIRA. ICE and immigration courts violated people’s rights under Obama and Biden. Immigration is the left’s version of the deficit. Something people care about only when the opposition is in power.
